Sheffield’s sporting highlights for spring 2016

With the dark days of winter just about behind us, it’s time to get out there and celebrate the great outdoors with some fantastic sporting events that are taking place in the Sheffield area this spring.

From epic football clashes that are the already gathering interest on sports betting sites, to charity fun runs that provide the chance to work off the winter flab, here’s how you can enjoy being out and about in Sheffield in spring 2016!

Football highlights

FootballAs usual, Sheffield’s two football teams have managed to capture the headlines, and Sheffield Wednesday face an epic battle as they attempt to stay amongst the contenders for Championship play-offs as they bid to make their return to top-flight football.

Key amongst the fixtures will be a bruising clash against fellow contenders Ipswich Town at Hillsborough on 16 April that could be one of the pivotal matches of the season – so be sure to pick up a ticket before they sell out.

And although Sheffield United are currently languishing mid-table in League One, they feature amongst the betting that can be found online at Betway that should give even the most ardent fan an extra reason to celebrate!

Running events

And that’s the thinking behind events such as the Sheffield Half Marathon that takes place on 10 April.

This epic racing event attracts thousands of participants, and although it starts and finishes in the city, there’s enough spectacular views of the surrounding Peak District on the route to keep you inspired.

Plus, even little ones can join in on the fun with a mini-marathon that takes in a 1.5 km course. And if you’re busy that weekend, then there are plenty of other great running events such as the Bluebell Wood Colour Dash on 30 April that all serve as a welcome reminder of how much fun it can be to keep fit!

Other sporting attractions

The great thing about living in Sheffield is that it’s such a big city that there’s truly something for everyone. Pub games aficionados can get a good dose of inspiration courtesy of the Betway Premier League Darts event at Sheffield Arena on 7 April.

Whereas the World Snooker Championship at the Crucible Theatre runs for two weeks from 16 April and serves as further evidence that Sheffield is a great bet for anyone looking to enjoy the best in sport in 2016!
