Showroom Cinema to host Q&A with legendary filmmaker Ken Loach
The Showroom Cinema is set to host the legendary filmmaker Ken Loach (I, Daniel Blake, Kes) for a special Q&A following the screening of his new film Sorry We Missed You on Wednesday 13 November.
Taking aim at the UK economy, Loach’s new film is an empathetic look at Ricky – a husband and father who lost both his career and mortgage after the 2008 financial crash. Unable to pass up work, he takes a job with a delivery company but the zero hours contract offered comes with no benefits and unreasonable targets. It’s Loach’s latest damming indictment of Tory Britain and highlights the struggle of living on an unpredictable minimum wage.
“We are absolutely thrilled to be welcoming Ken to the Showroom,” the cinema’s senior programmer Andy Moore tells us. “50 years after the release of Kes, Loach’s work continues to connect with people in South Yorkshire in a really powerful way and our audience always comes out to support his work.
“Like with I, Daniel Blake, this film takes an unflinching look at our broken economic system and the profound impact it has on people’s lives. It’s a work of enormous empathy and sensitivity and, as we head into yet another general election, an urgent and passionate plea that something has to change. It’s a great honour to be welcoming this legendary director to our stage.”
Ken Loach will be attending the Showroom Cinema screening on 13 November at 6:1opm. Tickets can be found at showroomworkstation.org.uk.
