Sheffield’s Christmas markets open today

Sheffield’s Christmas markets open today (15 November), seeing the return of the Sleigh Bar, the big wheel and more than 50 traders to Fargate and the Peace Gardens. 

From just a handful of log cabins to a sprawling fleet of over 50 traders, the Sheffield Christmas markets have grown hugely over the last few years. This year, the regular pit stops of The Sleigh Bar, the German Grill and Santa’s Grotto – which has this year relocated to the Peace Gardens, giving kids the chance to have a picture with the main fella himself, as well as a gift.

Some of the traders include Tipsy Towers’ Sheffield themed gifts and cards, O’Donnell Moonshine and local favourite the Sheffield Candle Company as well as the return of the big wheel to Sheffield city centre this year. Family tickets (two adults, two children) are available from £15, adults £5 and students/children £4 – there’s even an option for a luxury VIP booth for £50, if that’s your kinda thing…

X-Factor’s singer Molly Scott will be performing at the Christmas light switch on, Sunday November 18. Molly will be joined by Britain’s Got Talent finalist Kyle Tomlinson and The Voice finalist Lucy Milburn. The countdown to the switch on will start just before 5.30pm but the festivities begin at 12.30pm where kids can meet Santa, The Snow Queen and Christmas Elves, see a live nativity, and watch performances from dance groups, a brass band and choir.

Yorkshire Blankets

In the city centre, the fun starts at 2pm with appearances from Elf on a Shelf and Father Christmas, children’s film and TV characters and mascots from the emergency services. Heart Yorkshire breakfast presenters Dixie and Emma will be on hand to host the show. Joining them will be the cast of this year’s Peter Pan pantomime at the Lyceum, Milkshake’s David Ribi and Panto Legend Damien Williams.

The Sheffield Christmas markets are open 10am-6pm Sunday – Thursday and 10am-8pm Friday – Saturday. The markets close on Christmas Eve at 6pm.
