ShAFF Adventure Film Festival to return this July

In a unique year for adventure filmmaking, ShAFF is back, as tickets go on sale for the 2021 festival which takes place at the Showroom Cinema from 9-11 July. Bringing the wild outdoors into the heart of the city with a carefully curated three-day programme of over 100 of the latest adventure films from around the world.

This year’s festival will offer a safe and spacious experience, with capacity reduced and more of the action taking place outdoors.

For the last 16 years, ShAFF has supported new and upcoming film makers bringing fresh talent to the big screens. Every summer, founder and director of the festival, Matt Heason, spends time watching over 300 films from across the globe to ensure only the best 100 entries make the final cut. This upcoming ShAFF festival, there has been a large push to increase the representation of women both in front and behind the camera.

The great outdoors…

ShAFF is family friendly and great value for  money, with one ticket gaining you access to multi-film screenings over the course of the festival. Over the three days, there will also be variety of free talks and events taking place as well.

In the run up to the festival, ShAFF is running a competition for budding young filmmakers in years 10-13 to create their own short adventure film. The film has to be set in Sheffield or the Peak Districts and encourage others to get outside and go exploring. The winner will receive £1,000 towards the cost of making their film. They will also be mentored through the filmmaking process by Ed Birch, director of Salt Street Productions and judge at ShAFF. The winner will be announced at this year’s ShAFF festival and the resulting film will be screened at the 2022 festival.  The deadline for entries is 18 June.

More information on the application process can be found on the ShAFF website.
