New shipping container development proposed on Arundel Gate

Never a city to leave an idea unflogged, new plans have been submitted for another shipping container development, this time based on Arundel Gate.

Despite the much-publicised issues surrounding the Fargate Shipping container foodhall and retail space, a licensing application has been submitted to Sheffield City Council for a new ‘Food and retail space constructed from re-fitted shipping containers,’ based on the ‘Podium Area, Arundel Gate Complex, Sheffield, S1 2PN’.

The application has been submitted by Pond Gate Estate 1 Ltd and requests permission to screen films and play both live and recorded music. If approved, it would be open until 12.30am from Sunday-Wednesday and from 10am to 1.30am Thursday-Saturday, serving alcohol until midnight from Sunday-Wednesday and 1am Thursday-Saturday.

The exact location and size of the development is unclear from the application and Exposed have requested more info from the council regarding the details of the proposed development.

Meanwhile, over on Fargate, the still partially opened container unit, which contains shops, restaurants and an upstairs bar which never opened, is still likely to close in February and could still be relocated.
