Louis Theroux to recieve honorary doctorate from Sheffield Hallam
Celebrated documentary, filmmaker and all-round sound geezer Louis Theroux will accept an honorary doctorate from Sheffield Hallam University next month.
Attending Hallam’s graduation ceremony next month (November), Theroux will receive his doctorate alongside students graduating from the university’s faculty of science, technology and arts.
His documentaries often feature the filmmaker getting to know the people at the heart of some of the world’s most controversial, fascinating and unconventional lifestyles.
Theroux has won numerous awards including two BAFTAs and a Royal Television Society Award for his work, which includes going inside the Westboro Baptist Church, interviewing white supremacists and shining a light on the adult sex industry.
On accepting the doctorate, he said: “I am thrilled to be offered an honorary degree from Sheffield Hallam University, especially given its historic connection with the world of documentaries and media.
“I hope it will be chance to share ideas with members of the faculty and the student body – to answer questions they may have and also to hear from them about their dreams and ideas. I look forward to being part of the Sheffield Hallam family.”
