Co-working at Union St
Union St is an alternative workspace environment for freelancers, entrepreneurs, social enterprises and small businesses in Sheffield.
More and more people are choosing to become entrepreneurs or work on a freelance basis, which often raises the question: office space vs. working from home? Each option has its downfall, with money, motivation and space often being an issue. To tackle this, the alternative of co-working has begun to spring up in various cities across the globe, including the recent venture of Union St in Sheffield. Based in a four-storey building in the city centre, Union St provides an affordable co-working space offering networking and collaboration opportunities, as well as a flexible office space.
Union St opened in October 2014 and is now the home of many small businesses, start-ups and freelancers covering a wide range of industries. Following the recent success of Union St member Twin Café’s pop-up shop that raised money for local social projects, co-founder Felicity Hoy comments: ‘We’re at an exciting stage in our development; the co-working space on the second floor is now well used so we’re turning our attention to developing the other floors. We’re getting the ground floor ready for hosting a long-term series of pop-ups, offering the perfect platform for small businesses to try out new ideas.’
If you are looking for a creative space and a chance to work with a variety of people, Union St might be your answer. With membership costs from only £5 per day, including hot-desking, Wi-Fi, hot drinks and the use of meeting spaces, kitchen and even a roof terrace, it is definitely worth a try if you are looking to develop your small business in a unique environment.
