Craig Charles @ DQ

Review of Craig Charles at the Ponderosa at Tramlines.
As Monday fast approached and the best Tramlines yet came to a close, for me, there was only one place to be: DQ for Craig Charles’ hotly anticipated DJ set.

Apparently all of Sheffield had the same idea, with the DQ queue seeming to snake right back to the Ponderosa.

The rain didn’t dampen the spirits of the festival goers waiting outside, and those lucky enough to be inside were just as sodden, thanks to a combination of skinny jeans; rain macs; a club at capacity and some rather energetic moves. It was hard enough fighting for a spot on the dancefloor, let alone trying to get close enough to glimpse the Northern legend.

Perhaps best known as Red Dwarf’s Lister, the 6Music DJ is fast becoming known for his funk-soul-fusions and acid jazz inklings. With Motown mash ups and soul shakedowns spilling from the speakers, shapes aplenty were being soldered into Tramlines history.

Two hours moved swiftly with Charles’ frenetic funk anthems, but I couldn’t have asked for a better Tramlines swansong.
