New single: Hey Sholay – Eyes for Me
After a prolonged break, local trip pop bohemians Hey Sholay are back with their new single, ‘Eyes for Me’. The release comes hot on the heels of the band’s well-received Tramlines set at the Cathedral.
‘Eyes for Me’ is a little more forlorn, with heartbreak-dyed lyrics tackling the subject of unrequited love, but it keeps the pleasant motion and feel-good radio-friendly melodies that made Hey Sholay’s name. The video, a psychedelic stop-motion procession of eyes staring at the camera, makes pitch-perfect accompaniment to the song’s tantalizing notes.
Hey Sholay exploded onto the scene back in 2012 with their debut album ((O)), which brought forth quintessentially British favourites like ‘Wishbone (Wish Wish Wish)’ and ‘Burning’. Lesser bands would have been satisfied with one or two tracks of this magnitude, let alone a whole album of them.
They followed up with the six-track Clouds, Castle, ______ the following year, before taking a break from releasing new music. I, for one, am glad that break is over.
