New album and UK Tour announced by Reverend & The Makers

Reverend & The Makers are well and truly back with their fifth studio album, ‘Mirrors’, due for release on October 9th.

‘Mirrors’ signals a change in the musical direction for the Sheffield band, and has caused quite a stir in the industry. Never one to mince his words, Noel Gallagher is a big fan of Reverend’s new stuff, claiming it’s “like nothing I’ve heard since the great concept albums of the 60’s”, a sentiment echoed by Carl Barat, “Mirrors is a magnum opus… Just what we needed from Reverend & The Makers”.

Speaking of the new direction, singer Jon McClure said: “Ed (guitarist and fellow songwriter) and I became resolute to make a record that we loved. Why not indulge the overwhelming urge to not play games anymore and set about making some art we are actually proud of rather than the release tour festivals repeat cycle we’d been on since forever.

“The result is the best thing we’ve ever done in my opinion. The reaction when I play it to people is like nothing I’ve seen before, except maybe the first album.”

‘Black Widow’ is the lead single for the new album and premiered on BBC Radio 6 Music on Tuesday, and you check out the video, directed by the acclaimed Roger Sargent, below.

Each track will be accompanied by a film directed by Sargent, and the album is available as a special CD & DVD, as well as a deluxe CD and super limited edition ‘Sheffield Wednesday blue’ vinyl LP. Each format will also feature a twenty-three minute dub version of ‘Mirrors’ (courtesy of Overproof Dub by Youth), with bonus radio versions of three of the album tracks.

Coinciding with the release of ‘Mirrors’, McClure is releasing a book of his lyrics and poetry illustrated by Horace Panter of The Specials, featuring every lyric from Reverend & The Makers and rare poems penned by McClure in collaboration with John Cooper Clark.
