Mumford & Sons @ Sheffield Arena
Don’t you just love it when something absolutely exceeds all your expectations and gives that little bit more? That was Mumford & Sons at Sheffield Arena.
I’m late to the party with this band, but the transition they’ve made musically is massive. They’ve packed away the major chord banjo floor fillers to the melodic, poetic, electronic melancholy.
Marcus wanted everyone up, dancing and waving their arms around early doors – ‘I Will Wait’ was the ultimate crowd pleaser for this. That said, they weren’t afraid to play the songs from Wilder Mind that evoke such emotionally disarming feelings that you could hear a pin drop. They had the balance just right.
It was a bleak and windy Sheffield Sunday night but they gave us so much light and soul. Every single person in the arena was swept away by them and no doubt like me, left infatuated with a band of many talents and sounds.
