Mudcats Blues Trio review

Mudcats Blues Trio @ Honey Bee Blues Club

The Honey Bees monthly Blues-fest kicked off with Ash Gray, who captivated his audience with a strong set and distinct style including the brilliant ‘Other Man’; an honest and up front confessional and ‘Two Lane Black-top’ a homage to the road trip experience. This guy is definitely one to watch.

Next up were Black Thunder Revue, showcasing their new video for ‘Can’t take a hint’ in the interval before taking to the stage and treating us all to a storming set in their own rock ‘n’ blues fashion. Following a recent change in line-up the boys are rapidly evolving their style, playing a crowd pleasing mix, culminating in a rip-roaring, coming together of band and fans, which left the whole room cheering and stamping for more.

Wraggy and Matt HB 28SeptHeadlining were Sheffield legends, The Mudcats Blues Trio, who took the assembled enthusiasts on a Blues roller-coaster, from low aching classics right up to foot stomping, have-to-dance high tempo’d anthems.

Joined on stage by the faultless Saxbob Swift and Rick ‘Honey Badger’ Chappell, the trio demonstrated just why they have such a legendary status. Chris Wragg’s guitar artistry and acrobatics in the Mudcats’ own ‘Blues for Buddy’ and new track ‘KMA’ mesmerised, leaving the crowd demanding an encore from the Trio, and ending a fantastic evening of blues magic on a high note.

Wraggy2 HB 28SeptThe Mudcats’ reputation is rapidly spreading, and rightfully so. As such, the band has been invited to play at the London O2 Blues Fest on the weekend of the November 7-8 2015.

Well done chaps!
