Review of PUP’s eponymous new album

PUP’s imminent debut release could be described as less of an album, and more of an angry rant in a confessional booth at 2am after a few too many.

An onslaught of barbaric guitar hooks, snarling vocals and thunderous drums pack quite a sinister blow to the speakers – which by the end will probably hope to grab five for a breather.

Lead single Reservoir batters and bruises its way into your ears, which smashes open the door to what becomes quite a chaotic path for the rest of the album.

A CBC Radio 3 award for Rookie of the Year seems justified by this brutally honest outburst from a band that’ll be impossible to keep off your playlist in the near future.

8/10 Lewis Mottram
