6Music Wear Your Band T-Shirt To Work Day
People of Sheffield, it’s time to start digging out your favourite band tees in preparation for 6Music’s annual ‘Wear Your Old Band T-Shirt To Work Day’, taking place on Friday 27th November.
The idea for the annual event, now in its eighth year, originally came from 6Music DJ and music lover Steve Lamacq, who told us: “What’s been brilliant has been seeing the terrific array of band’s names being paraded on the day – old and new groups, some of them quite obscure. And sure enough, they all have a tale behind them.” The initiative has seen more and more people getting involved each year and this time it’s set to be bigger than ever with listeners also being asked to vote for their favourite ever band tees online at bbc.co.uk/6music. The winner will be announced live on air on the 27th and will later go on display at the London Design Museum.
This year a vote has been launched to find the Greatest Band T-Shirt of all time. A shortlist has been decided by industry luminaries including artist Jeremy Deller, designer of the Yes artwork Roger Dean, Sheffield’s own illustrator Pete McKee, Mercury Prize shortlisted band Slaves, The V&A, London Design Museum and fellow 6 Music presenters. The winning shirt will be announced live on air during T Shirt Day, and will go on to be displayed at the London Design Museum. Head here to see the shortlist and place your vote.
Everyone is being encouraged to get involved and share pictures of the day on social media using #tshirtday. Also, we’d love to see your choices so feel free to tag us in @ExposedMagSheff.
