Tramlines 2016: Dizzee Rascal @ Ponderosa Main Stage
Review of Dizzee Rascal’s headline performance at the Ponderosa Main Stage on Friday.
Turning up fashionably late, and catching the end of ‘Fix Up, Look Sharp’ as I was chaperoned through a number of steel fences, I could hear how much the crowd were already into Dizzee Rascal’s much anticipated headline set.
Given the fact that the set wasn’t all that long, it gave Dizzee a chance to show just how many hits he has, with each song getting the whole crowd hyped and the atmosphere cranking up a few notches at the Main Stage arena. Sharing a lot of vocals with his hype guy gave Dizzee a chance to put on more of a show, hardly stopping for breath, as he repeatedly jumped around in circles (how I assume he got his name) and quickly got everyone into the festival spirit.
All in all it was a superb set full of crowd pleasers, with energy that didn’t at any point falter – both from Dizzee and the crowd. It was also maybe the first time I’ve ever been referred to as “one of the mandem” – something I’ll never forget.
