Village Green takes classic films outdoors

A new outdoor cinema experience is coming to Sheffield, courtesy of The Village Green Events company.

The pop-up screen will be located on the rooftop of the Q-Park Castlegate, with vintage deck chairs provided and food and drink on offer. The inaugural screenings will take place between the 17th and 19th of September, consisting of local classic The Full Monty, time-travelling extravaganza Back to the Future and the magical Dirty Dancing.

The organisers hope to expand to more sites across the city and eventually into the Peak District, saying, “This year, The Village Screen pop-up cinema is venturing to a number of urban and rural locations in Sheffield and Derbyshire. Join us to watch one of your favourite films under the stars whilst tucking into some tasty nosh.”

The city has seen a recent explosion of interest in outdoor film screenings. Earlier this year, Movie Park offered its first American-style drive-in screening in Millhouses park. The monthly screenings are drawn from a variety of genres. In October 2014, Sensoria Festival organised a one-off outdoor screening of the BBC docudrama Threads, set in the amphitheatre behind the train station.
