Preview: The Duke of Burgundy
Fans of romantic and erotic cinema with real substance should see The Duke of Burgundy this week.
The latest film from Peter Strickland, writer-director of Berberian Sound Studio, will be showing at Starring Sidse Babett Knudsen, of Borgen fame, as Cynthia and Chiara D’Anna, who previously worked with Strickland on Berberian Sound Studio, as Evelyn; The Duke of Burgundy is an erotic drama which has received rave reviews.
Set in an unspecified location and date in Europe, The Duke of Burgundy depicts a ritualistic relationship between Cynthia and Evelyn. Every day Cynthia inflicts sadistic humiliation on Evelyn, but as more is revealed about the pair it becomes apparent that Cynthia is not entirely in control. A film which promises to captivate with both romance and eroticism, The Duke of Burgundy demands to be seen.
