Back to back Alien and Predator film screening at Abbeydale Picture House
Local film buffs Reel Steel are bringing the ultimate cinematic showdown to Sheffield this month – back-to-back showings of cult sci-fi films Alien and Predator at Abbeydale Picture House.
Following successful screenings of Enter The Dragon, Evil Dead 2 and The Thing, the 30th birthday of John McTiernan’s Predator has provided a perfect opportunity for another big bash. However, the Grade-II listed theatre on Abbeydale Road will initially transport viewers onto the space tug Nostromo for a showing of Ridley Scott’s 1979 classic, before joining Arnie and co. on their ill-fated mission inside a Guatemalan jungle for the main event.
The Reel Steel team have told us they will be aiming to bring a real sense of occasion to the event, plus there will be a fully-stocked bar on offer for those looking to make a real night of it. Doors open at 6pm and the first film will start at 7pm, then following a short interval the second film will be on from 9.30pm.
The Alien and Predator double-bill screening takes place on November 11th. Tickets are £9 and available now in person at Sheffield City Hall or online at www.sivtickets.com.
Meet Reel Steel
Tell us a bit about how this all started?
Reel Steel came about through a passion for films from myself and our co-founder Josh. He did a Film Studies course at Sheffield Hallam and I was a film lover who’d gained a bunch of experience through involvement in events like Doc/Fest and Sensoria Festival. We eventually asked a few people we knew if they were up for contributing to something centred on a Sheffield-based enthusiasm for film – and Reel Steel was created.
We love far too many to pick just one, but the films that we’ve screened are some of our personal favourites – Enter The Dragon, Evil Dead 2, Big Trouble In Little China. But the three films that probably sum us up would be Drive, Battle Royale, and The Big Lebowski.
Do you have any other events coming up?
After our upcoming Alien and Predator double-bill, we’re already making plans for an event in the New Year. However, we haven’t got everything confirmed so can’t reveal all just yet! If we do manage to get everything together it should be a really good one – so keep an eye out, people1
