Rainbow Blades – The 600 Club

Rainbow Blades, the official Sheffield United LGBTQ+ and allies supporters’ group, has launched a campaign to reach 600 members before their 3rd birthday in April.

The award-winning group, whose previous campaigns have included the Proud Allies initiative and the short film Welcoming Trans Fans to Bramall Lane, are keen to emphasize the important role allies (people who do not necessarily identify as LGBTQ+ but who believe in equality for all) have to play.

“Allies can be effective and powerful voices for LGBTQ+ equality and inclusion,” explains Rainbow Blades’ founder and chair James Laley. “Allies can not only help LGBTQ+ people feel comfortable being their authentic selves and live their lives openly but also help others understand the importance of allyship, equality and fairness for all people.”

Committee member Lewis Parker agrees. “Currently 55% of Rainbow Blades members are allies, which is great,” says Lewis. “Allies are important because making spaces LGBTQ+ safe and inclusive is everyone’s responsibility, not just that of LGBTQ+ people.”

Signing up to become a Rainbow Blades member is quick, easy and free. Members receive a monthly email with news on campaigns, social events and exclusive opportunities to work alongside the club to promote inclusion, as well as a complimentary Rainbow Blades pin badge.
