RECIPE: Marco’s Hot Italian Donuts

There’s nothing more romantic than sharing something hot and gooey on a cold Valentine’s night. This recipe, straight from the new menu at Marco’s New York Italian, is guaranteed to hit your loved one’s sweet spot:

Marco’s Hot Italian Donuts with Chocolate Sauce


For the donuts:

375g organic self-raising flour

95g caster sugar

3 eggs

240ml milk

150ml vegetable oil (additional will be needed for deep frying)

For the chocolate sauce:

15ml double cream

2g of icing sugar

35g of dark chocolate


Mix the organic self raising flour and 90g of caster sugar in a bowl. Make a well in the center of the mix and add the vegetable oil, eggs and milk. Mix until the batter is smooth.

Divide the dough into six pieces and roll into mini balls.

Fill a deep pan with 2/3 of the vegetable oil and heat until extremely hot. Carefully drop the dough balls into the hot oil and fry until golden brown.

To make the chocolate sauce, slowly melt the chocolate with the double cream over boiling water (ban marie), then add the icing sugar.

To finish, plate the chocolate sauce, donuts and sprinkle with the remaining caster sugar. Buon appetite!
