2020’s Greatest Football Moments

2020 has had its ups and downs for everyone. However, we still had lots of great events that took place, especially in the popular world of football. Stay glued to read a few memorable sporting events that took place in 2020.

  • Liverpool

Another great Football moment was with Liverpool. Words could not describe their joy after 30 years of no league title. Since its rebranding from the old Division One in 1992, they never won the Premier League until 2020.

In 2014, they lost to Manchester City and also had a draw at Crystal Palace in another game. Their win happened when Chelsea beat Manchester City. That made them stand out with 23 points and just seven football matches at the tournament to go. They finished on 99 points which was the second-highest in Premier League history. At this point, sports betting figures began to rise in number because it was being legalized in a lot of countries, and fans were actively involved.

  • Celtic F. C.

It was a great year for Celtic F.C. as the Scottish Premier Football League board announced them as winners of the Scottish Premiership. It was not just about winning. They had successfully beat a 23-year-old record set by Rangers F.C. back in 1996-1997.

It was their ninth time winning the premiership in a row with thirteen points ahead of Steven Gerrard’s Rangers. This achievement was also made possible with their French forward player, Odsonne Edouard who beat some past players as the league’s top scorer with 22 goals.

  • Barrow AFC

June 17, 2020, became the end of Barrow’s 48 years of sorrow. They were voted out in 1972 and replaced by Hereford United. This year, they were promoted back to the English Football League by National Leagues clubs on a points-per-game basis.

Last season, they were managed by Ian Evatt, finishing from 37 matches on 70 points and losing just three of their final 28 fixtures. They finished 4 points clear of Harrogate town who also got their promotion to Football League through play-offs for the first time in their club’s history.

  • Leeds United

For 16 years, they had waited for the big Premier League football win. They won the English Football League Championship with 93 points. This happened as a result of West Brom and Brentford’s losses in their matches. What’s more, Leeds United won against their rivals with 10 points clear at the top and played six games unbeaten.

At this time, Leeds had different victories. Their manager, Marcelo Bielsa, was also announced as Sky Bet Championship Manager of the Month for July. According to CNN, sports betting was easier for bettors to gamble on not just football but other games such as baseball, basketball, and hockey—both at professional and college levels.

Although the coronavirus pandemic destroyed much of our fun in 2020, the world of sports was still a blast. No doubt, 2021 looks promising and will hopefully come with many exciting happenings.
