You might meet a few raised eyebrows when you announce that you’re hosting an outdoor Christmas party, but that shouldn’t put you off. Yes, it might be cold, but now’s the perfect opportunity to create your very own winter wonderland.

To make it as magical and enchanting as possible, there are a few things to consider when coming up with your initial concept and shopping list. Everything, from the seasonal décor to the theme, food and music, will make the party what it is. And it’s these things that will make yours the Christmas party of the year.

Decide on a theme

Everyone loves a good theme, and the one you choose will set the mood of the whole event. If you envision something smooth and classy, think cool colours like white and silver, integrating illuminated icicles and white bulbs to create a wintery feel throughout.

If you can’t resist all the cheesiness that comes with Christmas, then go all out with Santa’s grotto, transforming your garden with Santa’s workshop, installing cute figurines to really bring the whole scene to life. Such a theme also calls for a costume competition!

Seasonal décor

It’s probably the only time of the year when you completely transform your house, so why not do it properly! Have your fun with twinkly lights, homemade wreaths and Christmas ornaments to really get the Christmas spirit going.

And if you have a soft spot for crafts, now’s the perfect opportunity to get your paintbrushes, sketchbooks and papier mache out to create some snowflakes, Christmas tree decorations and wall hangings for the festive season. It’s a great activity to bring the kids and family together.

Music

Is it really Christmas until you’ve heard Mariah Carey’s number one hit? Crank up the Christmas tunes to really get the party started. And don’t compromise on music quality! Invest in some heavy-duty speakers so that the festive songs really sound their best. And if you can’t fit them in your car, take out a one-day van insurance policy to make sure they get to your home safely.

Food

One thing we all love about Christmas time is the food! The one time in the year where all healthy intentions go out of the window, now is the time to indulge in decadent food and drink and say goodbye to the everyday diet – at least for a few days! Pile on the mince pies, eggnog, festive strudels, and meaty gravies. Your guests might have to be rolled home!
