Are you considering a last-minute getaway to Spain this September? There’s certainly plenty on offer outside the peak summer season, whether you’re visiting the historic sites of Andalucia or the beautiful beaches of the Costa Blanca.

Need more convincing? Here are several reasons to explore Spain this September.

  1. Mild weather

Typically, the weather is mild in Spain during September. This means you can enjoy being outdoors, whether you’re exploring cities, relaxing on the beach or hiking along scenic trails.

The average temperature and weather conditions vary depending on which area of Spain you visit.

The Met Office explains that “Spain has three main climate zones” including the Mediterranean, central and northern zones.

It’s worth checking the weather before booking your trip, so you know what to expect (and what to pack!).

  • Less crowded

There are usually fewer tourists visiting Spain once the school holidays have ended.

So, if you’re keen to explore popular attractions, this is a good time to visit as there may be fewer crowds and shorter queues.

The atmosphere in popular resorts may be more relaxed, and you could potentially find lower prices for flights and accommodation than in the peak summer season.

  • Fun festivals

There are plenty of fun festivals that take place in September, such as La Mercè in Barcelona.

This vibrant celebration takes place to honour the Patron Saint of Barcelona. You can expect “music, dance, circus and street arts” as well as “fire beasts, human towers and sardana groups”, says Barcelona Tourism.

If you love cinema, plan a visit to the San Sebastian Film Festival. Or if sipping a high-quality glass of vino is more your thing, head to one of the grape harvest festivals.

The capital of La Rioja, Logroño, hosts a week-long festival to celebrate the grape harvest with great music, food and grape treading.

  • Seasonal cuisine

Spain offers a vast array of delicious dishes, from Manchego cheese to patatas bravas and gazpacho.

If you want to sample the best fresh produce of the season, what’s available will depend on the region you’re visiting.

In Valencia, for example, you can enjoy a wide variety of fresh fish, from mahi mahi to anchovies and horse mackerel, says Visit Valencia.

They also say World Paella Day takes place on the 20th of September, so what better time to try this traditional Spanish dish?

  • Accommodation options

With the busiest holiday season over, there may be more accommodation options to explore.

As well as more availability, you could find lower price tags, allowing you to holiday for less.

If you want a private place to relax and unwind, consider booking a villa in Spain.

They allow you to get up and go whenever you please, giving you more flexibility to create an itinerary that suits you and your family.

With so much to enjoy during September in Spain, it’s a great place to holiday with friends or family.

So why not organise your trip today and take advantage of the fun-filled festivals, food and more this autumn?
