Winter 2015-2016 Shoe Trends: The High Boot
Winter is coming and with it the issue of footwear. Heels look great with everything you wear for work but they aren’t the warmest of shoe choices and while those Vans are perfect for walking down the high street on a Saturday they aren’t great when a torrential downpour strikes.
Let’s take a look at this season’s hottest shoe trend – the high boot – and the various style you can snap it up in:
The high boot
Boots are stretching to new lengths this season, extending way beyond the knee and looking like something Geri Halliwell would pull on for a gig back in the day. While they don’t replace trousers – although they do give it a good go – they look amazing when squeezed into and paired with slim leggings, a cute top and your biggest winter coat.
We’re still digging gladiator style footwear this year. It’s a trend that emerged again in the summer and has been carried over, but instead of sandals you’ll find it on comfy flat boots, perfect for when the heating is finally turned on in the office and you fancy wearing a skirt. Reaching up the calf, these lace-up designs add a new element to the high boot and help add some texture and a focal point to your look.
Faux fur is having its moment again this winter and boots are taking it on in the form of pom pom embellishments or strips of shaggy fur along the cuffs. The designs need not be as extravagant as the Gucci princetown slippers, which were showcased earlier in the year – you know, the ones that remind you of guinea pigs you wear on your feet and actually need combing after wearing. You might not fork out £1,230 on a pair of shoes that remind you of your childhood pet, but you will discover faux fur on high boots ready to buy for the season ahead.
Patchwork designs are making a comeback, with the high boot suddenly embracing denim, suede and textured fabrics, coming together to create truly unique and fun footwear. You’ll find many high street stores following in the footsteps of high-end brands such as Burberry, who are offering patchwork styles featuring plenty of on-trend suede – for the small price of £1,450.
You’ll be happy to know that you can easily channel movie legend Crocodile Dundee with all the snakeskin print that’s going to be used on high boots this season. Look out for burgundy, olive and mustard colours to work with your favourite suede pinafore and high neck top ensemble this winter.
Suede thigh highs
Suede is huge for the coming season, what with the ’70s trend hanging around, and this thigh high style has been seen on numerous celebrities such as Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Taylor Swift. They’ve been opting for the pricey Stuart Weitzman Highland boot, which comes in at an eye watering $798, so if you don’t have the cash to splash, then the high street should be offering some more affordable alternatives.
The high boot is the perfect winter footwear staple for your wardrobe and should also carry you through until spring, when you finally put the winter coat away and bring out the lightweight jacket and open sandals once again. For now though, embrace the trend!
