Summer Knits

Chic City blogger Kate takes on the Summer Knit.

The perfect summer knit was on my must-have list for ages, but I’ve seen so many tempting options that it was difficult to settle on one. The other day though, during an impromptu wander in Marks and Spencer, I went for this light pink diamond knit with quirky multicoloured fibers.

I know jumpers don’t seem all that summery at first, but a pretty knit is the perfect cover-up for beer gardens and barbeques while the evenings are still light. In fact, laid back knitwear is really proving an essential for SS14, with a lot of high street and online retailers interpreting the trend. The best of the bunch steer clear of that fluffy, wintery effect and instead combine a loose knit with lovely sleek cotton, which is still snuggly enough for a cool evening. Marks and Spencer’s Indigo Collection has always done natural textures and colours very well and their SS14 range just makes me want to be at the seaside. What I love about this jumper is that it feels light as a feather as well as being dense enough to keep out the chill when dusk sets in. Team with a pretty summer scarf and some sandals. I’m wearing these olive green jeans but the beauty of a summer knit is how versatile it is-throw it on over a dress or over a shirt.

I’ve also seen some other great ones in Zara, Fatface and in Joy on Ecclesall road. For a treat, Whistles in John Lewis has some slightly pricier options I have my eye on. And The trend doesn’t leave guys out; Zara menswear is rocking this look at the moment too.
