Have yourself a dressy little Christmas

Fashion blogger Kate visited Mooch Vintage to overhaul her party wardrobe.

‘Tis the season for parties, and with it comes the pressure to get the perfect outfit. But it can be tricky to find something you absolutely love that will see you through your festive schedule in style. And whilst most of us have a little black dress to fall back on, it’s much more fun to mix things up, experiment and be playful with your party wear. One glance at my old faithful strappy dress, now more grey than black, told me I wouldn’t get another year out of it, but I immediately knew the perfect place to revive my party wardrobe.

Mooch Vintage on Division Street has long been a favourite of mine when I need a serious dose of retro glamour, and because everything is lovingly hand-picked, every piece has the wow factor. So I headed to Mooch and spent a fabulous evening with two of its super stylish team members Zoe and Dani who really know how to glam it up. We put some music on and got into the party mood, dressing up in our favourite ensembles to inspire you. Prepare to dazzle!

The Mooch party edit

Zoe looks beautiful in this gold dress and it would inject some Hollywood glamour into a very special occasion. This is a polished look and deserves a sleek up do like Zoe’s, delicate makeup and simple high heels to allow the dress to take centre stage.

img_8839I have my eye on this 1950s deep midnight blue velvet dress (fight you for it!). I adore its fabulous full skirt and subtle shimmer under the light. Slipping it on, I felt like I had stepped out of a vintage Christmas card with skaters gliding round an ice rink. All I need is a cape, bonnet and vintage hand warmer!img_8855-2

img_8746-2The metallic shade of this 1970s dress is a nice contemporary twist combined with the retro cut and shape. A shiny, experimental 1970s look is huge at the moment (if you don’t believe me, check out gorgeous singer Gabrielle Aplin’s starry look in her latest video).img_9054

img_9118-3Zoe rocked this 1950s green velvet dress, which I think would be perfect for catching up with old friends at your favourite wine bar over Christmas. A gold clutch completes the look.img_8879
