Review: The Colla Voce Cabaret

Colla Voce Theatre company provided a comedy filled ‘Cabaret’ on Friday evening. Emcee Karam Deo initiated proceedings at the Theatre Delicatessen with a rousing rendition of ‘Wilkommen’. The acerbic host had the audience in fits of laughter with his pithy observations of the audience and put downs of the cast.
The atmosphere was very much that of gathering a bunch of mates to have a bit of a laugh on stage.

However, the mainly student cast were ever the professionals, taking us through some ‘audience favourites’ or less iconic show tunes as I like to call them. Whilst there was the odd glimpse at tonsils during the requisite emotional ballad, there were plenty of humorous ditties – Mike Alexander with ‘Jeff’- to keep the crowd tapping their feet.

The penultimate act was a stunning and understated version of ‘Losing my Mind’ by Cordelia O’ Driscoll, enough to send shivers through the Theatre Delicatessen and have the audience asking ‘Liza Minell-who?’

Many of the uber- talented crew will be reuniting once more for ‘Urinetown- The Musical’ at the University of Sheffield.
