LGBT+ Sheffield: December 2020

So, apparently it’s December already – if the concepts of date and time still mean anything this year. It’s been a strange old time in the world of events as our social lives have all been relocated to Zoom, as we connect virtually from our sofas surrounded by a lifetime supply of toilet rolls and pasta, eating our homemade banana bread…

At the time of writing, all our LGBT+ venues remain closed due to lockdown, with only Spirit of Sheffield remaining open for online deliveries. As we await announcements about when we can reopen, we do still have a few online events to keep you entertained through the cold winter nights.

First up we have E.D.E.N Digital [Fri 4 Dec] showcasing short films produced by members of Sheffield’s LGBTQ+ communities alongside behind-the-scenes footage and interview with participants.

Queer Jewish cabaret collective, Homos and Houmous, originally due to take place at DINA, move online, welcoming all Hebrews, shebrews, and theybrews, goys and gals for a night of virtual celebrations with Drag, Poetry, and DJs featuring artists from Manchester, Sheffield, London, Leeds and Glasgow hosted by music hall grand dame Chanukah Lewinsky. The lineup includes That Ray, Christian Adore, Rami Yasir, Ben Woodward, Talya Stitcher, Ruth Nicholson, and DJ TamTam.

The O’Hooley-Tidows move their seasonal WinterFolk Tour online [Thu 24 Dec]. There will be wintery songs, carols, instrumentals, and of course, a bit of daftness thrown in too, all by the fireside in their little cottage in Golcar and interspersed with footage recorded across lockdown, as they walk in the Colne Valley with their little lad Flynn. There may even be some songs from the beer cellar!

That’s all for this year, and things will undoubtedly look a little different for a while to come; but as we hopefully reopen in 2021, there are so many rescheduled events, so it looks like being a busy year ahead to make up for it. We have a huge list of drag race stars due to appear at the Leadmill throughout the year, and rescheduled tour dates from Lucy Spraggan, Larry Dean, and Heaven 17 and an Arena date (if we can even imagine that many people being together again) from camp icons Steps.

Keep an eye on www.facebook.com/sheffieldlgbtevents for updates and announcements on the latest events and venues news. It’s been a tough old year for artists and venues, so when we reopen and it’s safe to do so, get back out there and support your local venues and I’ll look forward to seeing everyone’s faces again – not in a Zoom window!

Until next time, love and rainbows…
