Produced by Sheffield's @warpfilms and filmed in the nearby location of Derbyshire town Matlock, Frazer MacDonald explores the brilliance of Shane Meadows' hard-hitting revenge thriller. Link in bio. 🎞
With the UK government’s roadmap this week stati With the UK government’s roadmap this week stating that ‘larger events’ will be able to go ahead from 21 June, could this mean the return for @tramlines?

The event is currently scheduled this year for 23-25 July, and with the organisers of larger festivals such as Leeds & Reading announcing yesterday an intention to go ahead with their August dates, it’s looking fairly likely that Tramlines could be following suit.

We contacted the Tramlines team and received the following response:

“We’re processing the same news as you with regards to the roadmap. Tramlines are as keen as everyone for the event to go ahead and are currently busy behind the scenes preparing to welcome you all for that much-needed party at Hillsborough Park in July.”

“That said, we don’t yet have any concrete plans with regards to the 2021 festival. The safety of ticket holders and staff is at the forefront of the planning process for any event and must first be ensured for it to go ahead.”

“Rest assured, if we aren’t able to go ahead, all ticket holders will be able to rollover to Tramlines 2022 or given the opportunity to claim a refund.⁣ Thanks for your patience as we work through it.”

Sit tight for any further developments. ❤️

Back in more recent times exploring dearly held Sh Back in more recent times exploring dearly held Sheff albums, Aaron Jackson reflects on Sir Richard Hawley’s 2019 record. 👇

“A founding myth of our green unpleasant land suggests that England will fall if the Tower of London’s ravens leave, an idea that has persisted for nearly a thousand years despite it being widely understood for most of that time that ravens are non-migratory and this particular subset of the species have their wings clipped to prevent them leaving the site.

But that’s the South. They’re odd down there. Up in God’s own, though, we have a variation on that folk belief. Should Richard Hawley ever stop living in, writing about, referencing or championing Sheffield, then Sheff will fall.

Luckily for us, from Lowedges on, Sheffield runs through Richard Hawley’s career and work like the Porter Brook: a meandering course that touches every part of the city from the rich folks on the hill to the rusting hulks in the valley basin below that remind us all of what Sheffield and her people once were.

Those of you who loved the man because of the way he married melancholy, thoughtful songwriting to an impeccable 50s noir vibe and shot it through with the wry observational grit of South Yorkshire will find a lot to like on Further. But it’s also an album built around an objective: to ‘get the message across like a bullet.’ The glam-rock Oasis-stomp of lead single ‘Off My Mind’ reflects Hawley’s urge to keep everything moving and get in and out in three minutes or less.

But there is depth and nuance and consideration among the loud. ‘My Little Treasures’ should reassure long-term Hawleyites that the man has not deserted them. Taking twelve years to record, it’s a beautiful song recalling meeting two of his father’s friends following his death in 2007 in all of its emotional complexity. Similarly, ‘Emilina’, and ‘Midnight Train’ indicate that a winning way with a sumptuous ballad is still there.

Ultimately, while not necessarily an album specifically about Sheffield, it is an album about love, belonging and personal space. Edinburgh had Rabbie Burns. London had Charles Dickens. We’ve got Richard Hawley and he writes better tunes than both of them.”
Sticking with our favourite Sheff album shouts, he Sticking with our favourite Sheff album shouts, here’s another’un from @issylibby.👇

“Released in 1994, His ‘n’ Hers provided the Sheffield-based band with a breakthrough which would secure their legacy as icons in the Britpop scene, its irresistible realism when exploring relationships and intimacy simultaneously reflective of the era and consistently relevant even today.

Though tracks from Different Class (‘Common People’, ‘Disco 2000’) are far more likely to be heard on the dancefloor of indie clubs (in a world where they’re actually allowed to open up, of course…), His ‘n’ Hers seems to have stood the test of time because of its understated gems and witty lyricism.

There’s a certain desperation to a lot of the tracks on this album, a desperation which is as hopelessly relatable as it is unnervingly seductive. This quality – arguably quintessential to Pulp’s very core – is particularly prevalent on tracks such as ‘Babies’, ‘Do You Remember The First Time?’, and ‘Pink Glove’.

His ‘n’ Hers took its listeners on a journey to Stanhope Road, Sheffield, back in 1994, and established Pulp as one of the city’s true greats; its ‘Kitchen Sink’ essence is what grounds Pulp as a band whose coolness transcends eras and trends – a Britpop classic which sounds just as marvellous nearly 27 years later here in 2021.”

‘Tis but a snippet, btw. Read the full article online at exposedmagazine.co.uk 💪

What's your favourite Sheff album? We asked a coup What's your favourite Sheff album? We asked a couple of our contributors that very question, and our music writer Conchie came back with an 80s banger that to this day can fill a Steel City dancefloor in seconds.👇

'Some people will try and tell you that the quintessential Sheffield album is Cole’s Corner or Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not. "Look! It references the city!" they cry; or "Went to Notre Dame! Has a song title with the word ‘Mardy’ in it!" These people are fine people who I’ll happily have a pint with, but they’re talking bollocks. They’re fine albums, don’t get me wrong. Landmarks. But the truly great Sheffield album surely has to be tied to the city, yet transcend it. It must be of its time, and timeless.

Step forward The Human League and Dare. When this was recorded, Sheffield was a very different place from the hipster-friendly student-retaining hub it is now. The steel was gone or going, and it was grim oop north. Born as the original band blew apart (with Martyn Ware and Ian Marsh buggering off to form Heaven 17) it was that rarest of things: a critically-acclaimed global smash, marrying cutting-edge synth-pop to genuinely classic songwriting. ‘Don’t You Want Me Baby’ has entered the culture – a 40s film noir set to a futuristic soundtrack – but there’s gold on each side. It has style, soul, sophistication, humour, melodies to burn, and warm humanity among the machines. Sheffield, then. Case closed.'
