Can you believe that April is almost upon us? And with every new month comes a flurry of new film releases to feast your eyes upon. Here are Amelia Lancaster’s picks of the bunch. 

The Boss Baby
April 6th

Alec Baldwin recently loaned his talents to SNL’s popular Donald Trump skits, but now he is voicing the baby in the next Dreamworks animated comedy. He’s not alone though, as Steve Buscemi, Jimmy Kimmel and Lisa Kudrow are also along for the ride.

I Am Not Your Negro
April 7th
Based on writer James Baldwin’s unfinished manuscript, Remember This House, Raoul Peck’s film tells the story of race in modern America. Narrated by Samuel L. Jackson, the film explores the history of racism and civil rights. The documentary won an Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

April 7th.
Who says vegetarians can’t be cannibals? That is certainly the case for college student Justine (Garance Marillier) who develops the somewhat disturbing desire to consume human flesh. This French-Belgian horror flick is sure to make your skin crawl – just check the trailer below.

Aftermath
April 7th
Hot on the tails of Maggie (2015), Arnold Schwarzenegger is back in another serious role. He plays a widower who lost his wife in a plane crash and blames  air traffic controller (Scoot McNairy) for the incident. He demands answers for what happened.

The Fate of the Furious
April 11th

Albeit with a slight alteration of the title, the latest instalment in The Fast and Furious franchise will come crashing  into April. Regulars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson and Michelle Rodriguez (among others) make a return, along with the much-welcomed addition of Kurt Russell and Charlize Theron.

It’s an understatement to say Jim Broadbent has a long filmography, but we’re always happy to see him again! This is the story of a man’s past coming back to haunt him as a letter unlocks memories of a relationship from a long time ago.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
April 28th

James Gunn managed to turn one of the oddest Marvel properties into a beloved sci-fi adventure flick. So, why not make a sequel? Quill and the gang are back, with the Awesome Mixtape #2 blasting out every inch of the way! Quill’s true parentage is to be unravelled and even Kurt Russell joins the cast. Whats else is there to say but – ‘I am Groot!’

The Promise
April 28th
Oscar Isaac, Christian Bale and Charlotte Le Bon star in this historical drama set in the dying days of the Ottoman Empire. The film follows the love triangle between a medical student, a beautiful and sophisticated lady and a renowned journalist.
