2016 has not been a great year for cinema, in particular for those of a more blockbuster persuasion – such as myself. However, while 2017 once again is filled with sequels and expanded universes, there is hope that some of them will rise above the average:
Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol 2
Arguably one of the best Marvel films to date, rejoining Draxx, Rocket Racoon and Baby Groot on their trippy adventures in deepest space should be a blast!
Justice League
Ok, so Batman vs Superman sucked, but I still believe in heroes. Initial footage suggests this superhero team-up will be less miserable, which I desperately want to be true.
T2 Trainspotting
20 years on from the original (who feels old?!), Renton returns to his hometown, reunited with Spud, Sick Boy and Begbie. The original is a stone-cold British classic. Here’s hoping the sequel can match up.
The Fate of the Furious
Yes, ok this one has The Rock in too, which is obviously a major draw. However, it also has a submarine/car chase. I don’t want to jump the gun, but this could be the greatest film ever.
Ghost in the Shell
Based on a classic anime story about Major (Scarlett Johansson) a human-cyborg hybrid who leads an elite task force known as Section 9, taking on the worst of the criminal underworld. Looks a little bit mental.
