We've Got The Blues!
Between April 30 and May 2, Magna (Sheffield Road, Rotherham) will be resonating with the soul laced guitars and crooning vocals of old school blues bands as part of the brand new international Yorkshire Blues Festival.
The festival’s ‘Alexis Korner Memorial Stage’ glories the ol’blues heydays – Alexis Korner, ‘the father of British Blues’ continues to platform musicians he worked with and inspired throughout his pioneering career which curator Norman Beaker described to be a “catalyst for many of the world’s foremost UK bluesmen.”
Norman Beaker, renowned guitarist and front man of The Norman Beaker Band sums up the event – “I can think of no finer way to do this then by commemorating the legacy of Alexis Korner and the many musicians he inspired.”
While there will also be a second stage supporting upcoming modern blues bands, the festival also aims to support local charities including Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice and the Rotherham Hospice.
Performing musicians also include Jack Bruce, Animal&Friends (with special guest Spencer Davis), Sandi Thom, Nine Below Zero and Dr Feelgood.
Tickets are £36 for the day and £98 for the weekend. Book at www.yorkshireblues.com
