W is for… Whirlow Hall farm
Saturday March 31, 11am
Brr. The weather’s took a bit of a turn, so it’s on with the winter coat and a scenic morning taxi ride to Whirlow Hall Farm.
Despite the chill in the air, it’s a lovely time to be at the farm – with new lambs and piglets being welcomed into the family. First port of call is the 17th century Cruck Barn for their brilliant brekkie – The Whirlow – a monster of a meal featuring their famous bangers. It’s washed down with a cuppa before I take the short stroll across to their farm shop – packed to the rafters with fresh, seasonal produce. Some amazing rump steak catches my eye – along with some massive goose eggs.
A stroll around the farm finds everything from chickens and turkeys, to horses, goats, bulls and beyond. Guided tours also happen on the hour should you wish a more informed visit.
After sniffing my fill of country air, it’s back on the Mercury trail for the fair trek to Penistone. X awaits…
