Unknown (12A)

Hot off the back of the surprise sleeper success of Taken, Liam Neeson is back in another slick, suited-and-booted action role.

This time the action is moved from Eastern Europe to Central, in the form of Berlin, allowing for more moody cityscapes and street level action pieces. Neeson is Dr Martin Harris, a man awakening from a coma to discover that someone has taken his identity and that no-one, including his wife, believes him. Risking life and limb to prove his identity, Dr Harris must discover who he can and can’t trust as the revelations come flooding in.

Losing out in the Box Office to Adjustment Bureau, Unknown is nonetheless a taut and well paced thriller, once again showcasing Neeson’s surprisingly effective action chops. While the end reveal is slightly too clichéd to be thoroughly effective, the journey to get there is full of nice reveals and plenty of smart set pieces. There is nothing here that is significantly new or original, but the various elements work together to entertain well enough.
