Thornbridge: Top of the World
Derbyshire’s Thornbridge brewery are celebrating today after winning two awards in the prestigious World Beer Awards 2013. A celebration at a brewery, that sounds like one hell of a party.
Thornbridge made it through four rounds of judging in blind tastings – a bit like The Voice but for beer. They saw off competition from nearly 600 beers from over 30 countries, taking home two awards.
Their Wild Raven was voted the World’s Best Black IPA for the second year running, while their Tzara won Europe’s Best Kolsch Beer.
Thornbridge’s Head Brewer Rob Lovatt said he was “absolutely delighted” with the twin victories, adding: “For Wild Raven to win two years running is a great tribute but we are also really proud that a British brewery has shown that it can make a great Kolsch – a style of beer that is often viewed as something only made well in mainland Europe.”
Congratulations Thornbridge, and cheers.
