'The Ecclesall' raises glasses, curtain

Sheffield’s Pomona was always more feared than loved but there’s still a certain apprehension when a pub goes under the knife.

For every York or Lescar there’s an Olive Bar or It’s A Scream. So we’ve been following the Pomona’s transformation into The Ecclesall with some interest.

The good news it all seems to be looking really promising.  £350,000 has been spent on The Ecclesall, highlights of which include a contemporary new look, coffee bar, VIP area and carvery. There’ll also be themed food nights and live music, guest personal appearances and perhaps most intriguingly, the introduction of the Ecclesall Comedy Club. Haywin Leisure’s Chris Windle says, “The Ecclesall will be still very much a pub. However, we are introducing many new features. The coffee shop will be open from 7am each day and there will be a VIP area for private parties or special events.”

We’ll see if we can get a sneak preview before the opening on October 6th.
