Review: Winter Rocks @ Corporation

Joe E. Allen checked out the first annual Winter Rocks at Corporation.

Well I think it's fair to call the first annual Winter Rocks at Corporation a success. To say this is an event with no history, a healthy, diverse crowd descended on Corp to enjoy some fine weekend rock and roll. Liberty Lies kicked things off on the main stage in the big room, and then local favourites, Regulus started the party on the second stage in the small room – times for the two stages were staggered against each other, allowing fans to get a taste of as many bands as possible, and there was a perfect balance of bigger names (The Answer, Heaven's Basement) and local talent to feast on.

By the time Black Spiders took the stage around 7pm, the crowd was nicely lubricated and packed into the main room, resulting in a great atmosphere to welcome those Sheffield heroes home. Another personal highlight was Goat Leaf closing the second stage – bluesy, fuzzy and as loud as usual, the band couldn't stop thanking the fans for being part of such a great day.

There aren't too many festivals around this time of year so Winter Rocks could occupy a nice gap in the calendar, and we look forward to seeing how it grows in 2015.
