Pining for Woody
Following last year’s European touring success, American roots music band Woody Pines will be returning to Sheffield for a night at The Greystones, on Tuesday 3rd May.
The group have gained some huge accolades both Stateside and back here in Blighty, with legendary Radio 2 presenter Bob Harris describing their debut album ‘Country Alligator’ as ‘superb’.
Their ragtime, bluesy American style has seen them take the Mardi Gras and Nelsonville Folk and Blues festivals, and also voted one of the stand out acts of the SXSW festival in Texas.
Lead man Woody Pines has his roots set deeply in the American south, and moved to New Orleans to steep in the city’s old music scene and help him put together a band.
Of his last visit to the UK, Woody said “It is almost a year ago exactly since we last played in the UK and it was, without any shadow of doubt, one of our favourite experiences.”
Let’s just hope 2011 can be an improvement. Tickets are £8 adv/£10 on the door. Head to mygreystones.co.uk/ for more.
