Our Own Film Circle

In all the hype surrounding the recent Academy Awards, one of the movie world’s biggest accolades has well and truly been overlooked.

Yeah, you know what I’m talking about, it’s only the Sheffield Film Circle’s 2011 Awards!

The collective of critics, journalists and curators that make up the Sheffield Film Circle cast their judgement and announced their favourite movies, actors and directors of 2011, and they’ve only gone against the grain and completely disregarded Academy Award triumph The King’s Speech. Good on em’.

Surprisingly their Best Picture award went to Facebook flick, The Social Network. Other winners included Christopher Nolan for directing the mind bending Inception, Andrew Garfield for his roles in Never Let Me Go and the aforementioned Social Network. Hailee Steinfield was accredited with Best Female Performance in the epic True Grit.

The Sheffield Film Circle is always looking for new members to join and judge, if you’re interested check out www.sheffieldfilm.com
