King Charles

King Charles sure does have a lot of love to give. His music is fabulously psychedelic and literally explodes with a plethora of vibrant and colourful sounds. It refuses to be pigeon-holed but if I were to try to describe it I’d call it Caribbean afro-punk indie-pop-folk.

Aesthetically, King Charles is akin to a modern day Prince. His knotted beehive, pirate shirts, black vests and waxed moustache give him the look of an occasional shaman dancing on a tightrope of cool.

Charles began writing songs when he was 17, and in 2009, became the first ever Brit to win the International Songwriting Competition in Nashville for his song ‘Love Lust’ by unanimous vote. The competition was judged by Tom Waits, Jeff Beck, Loretta Lynn and Jerry Lee Lewis, and following this victory King Charles was signed by Universal Republic/Island.

So don a paisley scarf, put some flowers in your hair and get down to Plug for a dose of King Charles.
