Kids Film Festival

The Showcomotion Young People’s Film festival returns to The Showroom Cinema on 20- 29th May after a year's break, and is set to provide the young people of Sheffield with more fantastic opportunities to see a wide ranging variety of films.
There is something for every age group at the festival, from 5-18, which children and families alike can enjoy. Festival director Joan Parsons remarked that the festival offered “young people in Sheffield a chance to see a huge variety of films, make some new discoveries and experience the buzz of a film festival firsthand.”
It all kicks off with a special preview screening of ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid 2’ which also includes a fancy dress competition! A second major preview takes place the following day with renowned Japanese animation studio ‘Studio Ghibli’s’ retelling of the classic children’s story ‘The Borrowers’.
The kids will also have the chance to give their opinions on the films shown as a group of 15-18 year olds have been chosen to select a winner from the films included in the competition for the InterActive Youth Jury Best Film Award. This is a new addition to the festival and is sure to see some fiery debates taking place between the judges after looking through the program.
The program in question includes films hand picked by the Showcomotion team who have decided to include: ‘Against All Odds’ – a documentary following a group of courageous young women facing the prospect of teenage motherhood, fantasy adventure ‘Eleanor’s Secret’, action adventure film ‘The Crocodiles Strike Back’ and a wide variety of other films set to please viewers.
Family adventure ‘Red Dog’ will be shown at the Closing Gala on the 29th of May where the award presentation for the InterActive Youth Jury Best Film and the Audience Award will be revealed.
A selection of classic big screen hits will also be shown at the festival including ‘Watership Down’, ‘Winnie the Pooh’, and ‘The Famous Five: Five on a Treasure Island’
The two weekends of public screening sandwich a week of school screenings for classes to attend from 23rd to 27th of May.
Tickets for all screenings during the festival are just £2
