It's Easy Being Green

A strong recycling initiative is being encouraged at this year’s Tramlines festival to make the music extravaganza as environmentally friendly as possible – to keep Europe’s greenest city as clean as it can be.
Top of the environmental attractions at Tramlines will be the Sheffield Is My Planet ‘Solar Powered Headphone Disco’ taking place on Devonshire Green between 6pm and 10pm on the Saturday and Sunday.
Along with this, various initiatives throughout the city have been set up to aid the green cause. In terms of public transport, Supertram is offering a weekend tram ticket for a fiver, while information concerning car sharing and bus initiatives can be found on the Tramlines website.
Sarah Nulty, the Tramlines Sustainability Director, said: “We’ve tried to consider everything from the minute the festival goer leaves their front door until they return home. Leaving no rubbish, learning a lot more about their role in keeping Sheffield green, and having fun along the way.”
Last year over 400 litres of paper, 2,080 litres of plastic and 560 litres of aluminium were recycled from the outdoor element of the festival alone. It’s hoped these impressive figures can be increased this year with a real push on recycling beer bottles and flyers underway.
