In New Music We Trust hits Sheffield
BBC Radio 1 comes to Sheffield on Friday 28th January with the free dance music event ‘In New Music We Trust Live’ from the University of Sheffield Students’ Union.
In New Music We Trust Live will be broadcast live from the university’s venue Fusion and Foundry and is Radio 1’s second free music event this month highlighting the station's commitment to supporting the best new music in 2011.
Annie Mac kicks off proceedings pre-event at 7pm from the venues bar with her official start to the weekend. The show will be broadcast in front of an invited audience of students and feature live performances from Mz Bratt, Breakage, Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs plus new Radio 1 signings Skream & Benga who will provide a special mix into Pete Tong's Show starting at 9pm. Pete will be joined by italo/disco duo Retro/Gradein his two hour show showcasing the hottest dance music.
From 10pm, Radio 1 opens the doors of the venue to revellers as the live broadcast continues with a huge dance music party. 520 pairs of tickets are up for grabs with registration opening from 7.45pm on Friday 14th January until closing on Thursday 20th January at 11pm . Underlining Radio 1's commitment to new talent, Sheffield based DJ’s Chris Moore and Paul Growns akaGrowmore will open the main room with a 10pm-11pm set. The DJ duo were selected to open this amazing event via BBC Radio Sheffield presenter Iain Hodgson who presents a BBC Introducing show every Thursday night, supporting the region's new music, gigs and unsigned bands. Growmore have already established themselves locally with successful club nights which nurture the city’s homegrown talent.
From 11pm, Judge Jules begins a six hour marathon of dance music over two rooms at the Student Union with special live guests and DJ sets from the Radio 1 dance family (Kutski, Heidi, Rob Da Bank, Kissy Sell Out, Jaymo & Andy George) bringing together a mammoth night covering the wide spectrum of new dance music.
