Ice, Ice, Baby

Sheffield Steeldogs star Ben Bowns took time out from his busy festive calendar to launch a bid to get everyone enjoying the final days of the city centre’s outdoor ice rink in the Peace Gardens.
The celebrated goalie, who has just won a Bronze medal with U20's Team GB in the U20's World Championships in Belarus, lined up alongside rising ice stars Ashley and Aaron Smith – sons of club owner Shane Smith.
They were first on the ice to celebrate the reduced admission prices that are now £6 adults and concessions and £5 for children (prices are normally £8 for adults and £6 for children).
The new prices will be in operation until the ice rink closes next Monday, January 3, 2011.
The ice rink was originally scheduled to finish on New Year’s Eve, Friday, December 31, but its popularity persuaded organisers to extend it.
Shoppers, tourists, visitors and Christmas revellers can skate for up to 45 minutes a time from midday to 9.30pm every day on the 25 metre structure.
The last skate is at 8.45pm each day except for New Year's Eve when the last skate is 4pm.

Sheffield Steeldogs have a number of games coming up over Christmas at iceSheffield including this Thursday, 30th December, against Manchester Phoenix (7.30pm and a big rivalry game) plus 2nd January against Telford Tigers (5.30pm).
