Harley's December listings
Harley Live are jumping at the change of plugging talent that is on the rise in Sheffield, and their festive-period live music schedule looks set to warm us up as winter kicks in.
Presenting Hey Sholay, Blood Sport and Mad Colours, as well as Queens Social Club showcases for indie-pop wunderkinds The Crookes and Northern Uke covers-stars The Everly Pregnant Brothers, the intimate venues promise to be some of the best places to catch a glimpse of some future stars.
They get the ball rolling on December 11th, with punk-Danes Icege, who's show is co-promoted with Drowned in Sound. Following on from this, Queens Social Club is the venue as Harley Live commit to their promise of backing local acts as on Friday 16th, cult heroes The Everly Pregnant Brothers take to the stage. Last year they fully sold out a two-night stint at the Harley, and they seem to be just as popular this time round with the show at Queens selling out in next to no time.
The very next day sees indie-pop architects The Crookes perform. They only recently arrived back from Japan, where they were working with fashion titans Burberry, and their endeavour is paying off with the increased popularity of their debut album Chasing after Ghosts.
We then approach the Harley's famous pre-Christmas party, and we look to be set for a rate treat with Hey Sholay, Mad Colours and Hot Soles taking to the stage on Friday 23rd December. Hey Sholay are looking especially juicy around Christmas, thanks to their song 'Wishbone' being awarded a spot on BBC Radio 1's playlist.
Finally, The Harley shall be bringing the New Year in with an entire evening soley dedicated to live music. With the assistance of local muscians (and live music afficionados) The Purgatory Players, the bill will feature art-punk favourites Avida Dollars and the anarchic Blood Sport who, while describing themselves as an 'aggro-beat', also put on one of the most captivating live shows in the city.
