Christmas With The Colliery

Due to the overwhelming demand, and sell out success of last year’s festive outing in the Sheffield International Concert Season, there are now two opportunities for you to enjoy Sheffield’s very best Christmas Concert at SheffieldCity Hall on Sunday 12 December.
Always the most anticipated concert of the season, this year’s line up will see Yorkshire’s very own stars of TV, film and radio,Grimethorpe Colliery Band grace the Irwin Mitchell Oval Hall stage to head up the festive proceedings.
Always traditional in nature, the concert will include some of the most favourite Christmas themed music and of course a selection of ever popular carols, led by the Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus. For this, Grimethorpe’s newly appointed Musical Director Brian Grant will be joining conducting forces with Darius Battiwalla, Music Director of the Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus.
As SICS regulars, the Sheffield Philharmonic Chorus return following a mighty performance with The Hallé earlier in November, which once again earned them rave reviews. The Chorus’ national profile continues to go from strength to strength, and no less so at Christmas it would seem, as this year they’re set to take centre stage in the choral edition of the BBC’s flagship religious programme Songs of Praise. Singing four Christmas carols, some with a distinctly Sheffield slant, the programme is due to be aired on Sunday 5 December 2010 and will act as a nice warm up to the Christmas Concerts.
The Christmas Concert will see yet another welcome return asIan McMillan, the Bard of Barnsley himself, is set to host the occasion once again with his own brand of poetic humour and charm. Never anything less than a fantastic musical celebration of all things festive and, as always, full audience participation is encouraged, – so don’t forget you singing voice! Tickets range from £10 – £60 (family ticket), the matinee takes place 3pm, evening concert is at 7pm. See more.
