Born Under a Batsu Sign – Shonen Knife Play Sheffield

Super fierce, super fun Japanese trio Shonen Knife bring their masterful babelfish punkpop to Sheffield.

The Sub Pop trio – the missing link between The Breeders and The Ramones (SK released an album of cover versions of the band last year) and arguably as influential as either – are like being whacked over the head by bunnies. Have a listen to Twist Barbie.

You know when Tom from Tom & Jerry would sometimes get hit by something and be nice? Shonen Knife sound like that but with Mark E Smith from The Fall.

The Japanese three piece – who (surprise!) turn out to have some of the greatest pop lyrics since Pete Waterman put down his pen – play at Sheffield's Queens Social Club on Friday 6th September. Ticket details here.
