'Art On Your Sleeve

Sheffield is no stranger to hip young gun slingers so 'Do It Thissen' have kindly gathered an extensive exhibition of the Steel City's early post-punk scene…

In a collection that will put your dad's double denim musical days to shame, 'Do It Thissen' will be Marshalling (muso pun, check) the finest record artwork from Sheffield's underground bands, focusing on 1978-82. Chronicling the inventive music that emerged in the wake of punk, ‘Do It Thissen’ focusses on brilliant sleeve designs from artists including The Human League and Cabaret Voltaire in between classic 'zines and a choice display of band snaps for a tasty visual sandwich.

The opening on Saturday 22nd September (6pm-10pm) features a talk by NMX editor Martin Lacey and Rotherham DJ Jon Downing, one of the exhibition’s curators and an old boy of London's '77 punk boom and adoptive Sheffieldian. Want more? Eve Wood’s film 'Made in Sheffield' will be screened on Wednesday 26 September in the Spiegeltent, not to mention Sid+Mallory, Tim Allcard, Couk and Lesley Guy, local artists who've put together bespoke pieces in respond to the multidisciplinary love-in.

‘Do It Thissen’ will be running from 22nd until 30th of September at the Montgomery Hall as part of the ‘Festival For The Mind’. Click here and follow a blog of the event at http://www.einekleine.com/.
