Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa – Review

Alan Partridge: Alpha Papa

Director: Declan Lowney

Cast: Steve Coogan, Colm Meaney, Felicity Montagu

Local radio host Alan Partridge breaks out of his normal television habitat and into the big screen. Just in time really, as Alan’s radio station has just been taken over by a big conglomerate. In the attempt to ‘modernise’ the station, one of Alan’s friends (Meaney) is given the boot, at his urging. At a party later that evening he returns, takes hostages and only Alan can save them… and boost his media profile at the same time.

The comedy is absolutely razor sharp, at no point is there a dull moment or wasted scene. Coogan hits the character immediately and Meaney is the perfect counterpoint to extend the plot into a feature film. I’m hereby making this the third film in the Cornetto Trilogy, after The World’s End was so poor. This is the best comedy film this year and only a German efficiency engineer trying never to laugh would miss it.
