A brand-new warehouse venue is set to open its doors in Sheffield this weekend, with the team behind the project promising a major boost for the city’s nightlife and events scene.
Located next to Steel Yard in Neepsend, Hangr launches on Saturday 13 June, transforming a 4,000 sq ft warehouse space into what organisers describe as a cutting-edge venue designed for large-scale electronic music events.
The venue has been five years in the making and Hangr’s founders say they hope the project can play a role in reinvigorating Sheffield’s events culture.
“This journey has been long, testing, but all the while worth it, and now we’ve created a venue for the love of music and Sheffield,” the team said in a statement shared on Instagram.
Described as a raw industrial space equipped with state-of-the-art production technology, the venue will feature 30 metres of overhead LED screens alongside a Funktion-One Evolution X soundsystem, which organisers claim is among the highest-spec audio installations in the region.
“We’ve been in the process of creating a monster,” the team added. “Whilst clubs and bars are closing daily, we’ve invested our all to give you all a special experience. We won’t let it fade away, that’s a promise.”
The opening party will be hosted by Sheffield promoters Kargo, with Bristol house heavyweight Eats Everything topping the bill. Support comes from Ella Knight, Andy Wadlow and a selection of local talent as the venue begins what it hopes will be a new chapter for the city’s electronic music community.
The arrival of Hangr comes amid growing concerns over the future of UK nightlife. Recent industry reports suggest that a significant proportion of new venues fail within their first few years, making the opening of a large-scale independent venue an increasingly rare occurrence.
For Sheffield clubbers, however, this weekend is all about looking forward. With ambitious production, a sizeable warehouse setting and a packed launch event, Hangr is aiming to establish itself as one of the city’s most exciting new additions.
